Official Appointment Criteria & Responsibilities for International Editors
The Journal for Civil and Criminal Law for Legislative Studies (JCCLLS) appoints International Editors to strengthen its global academic presence, uphold high standards of legal scholarship, and promote interdisciplinary research in civil law, criminal law, and legislative studies across jurisdictions.
The appointment of International Editors is based on merit, academic integrity, and demonstrated commitment to advancing legal research and policy dialogue.
I. Appointment Criteria
Candidates considered for the position of International Editor must meet the following requirements:
1. Academic Qualifications
- Possession of a Ph.D., S.J.D., LL.D., or equivalent doctoral qualification in Law or a closely related discipline.
- Active engagement in teaching, research, judicial practice, legislative consultancy, or academic administration at a recognized institution or legal body.
2. Research and Publication Record
- A strong and consistent record of publications in reputed peer-reviewed national or international law journals.
- Demonstrated expertise in civil law, criminal law, constitutional law, legislative drafting, comparative law, public policy, or related fields aligned with the journal’s scope.
- Experience as a reviewer, editorial board member, or advisor for academic journals is preferred.
3. International Academic Standing
- Recognized contribution to the legal academic community at regional, national, or international levels.
- Participation in conferences, law reform initiatives, legislative consultations, or judicial scholarship.
4. Ethical and Professional Integrity
- Proven adherence to high standards of academic honesty and professional conduct.
- No record of academic misconduct, plagiarism, or ethical violations.
- Commitment to confidentiality and impartiality in editorial matters.
5. Commitment to the Journal
- Willingness to actively contribute to editorial responsibilities.
- Availability to devote reasonable time to manuscript review coordination and advisory functions.
- Support for the journal’s mission of promoting legislative excellence and scholarly integrity.
II. Responsibilities of International Editors
International Editors play a strategic and advisory role in maintaining the quality, credibility, and international visibility of JCCLLS.
Their responsibilities include:
1. Editorial and Scholarly Guidance
- Providing expert advice on editorial policies and scope development.
- Assisting in maintaining high academic standards and research quality.
- Recommending thematic directions for special issues or focused sections.
2. Peer Review Support
- Reviewing manuscripts within their area of expertise when requested.
- Recommending qualified and impartial reviewers from their academic networks.
- Ensuring fairness, objectivity, and confidentiality in the review process.
3. Promotion and Outreach
- Promoting the journal within academic, judicial, and legislative networks.
- Encouraging high-quality submissions from diverse jurisdictions.
- Supporting international collaborations and scholarly exchanges.
4. Ethical Oversight
- Advising on ethical matters, including conflicts of interest and research misconduct.
- Supporting adherence to recognized publication ethics standards.
- Reporting any ethical concerns or irregularities to the editorial office.
5. Strategic Development
- Contributing to long-term planning for journal growth and indexing.
- Suggesting improvements to enhance visibility, credibility, and impact.
- Supporting partnerships with academic institutions and legal bodies.
III. Term of Appointment
- The appointment is honorary and academic in nature.
- The standard term is two to three years, subject to renewal based on performance and mutual agreement.
- No financial remuneration is associated with the position unless explicitly stated by the journal.
IV. Conflict of Interest Policy
International Editors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest related to manuscript evaluation or editorial decisions. Where a conflict exists, the editor shall recuse themselves from handling the concerned manuscript.
V. Termination of Appointment
The journal reserves the right to revoke the appointment of an International Editor in cases of:
- Proven ethical misconduct
- Breach of confidentiality
- Failure to fulfill assigned responsibilities
- Actions detrimental to the journal’s academic reputation
